Glór na Móna among the winners at annual Glór na nGael awards ceremony. President Micheál D. Ó hUiginn awarded Glór na Móna with  first place in the category for groups with populations of between 4,000 and 20,000.

Bhronn Uachtarán na hÉireann, Micheál D. Ó hUiginn na duaiseanna i gComórtas Ghlór na nGael in Óstán Carton House, Maigh Nuad oíche Shathairn (22/04/17).

I measc na nduaiseanna a bronnadh ar an oíche, bronnadh an chéad áit sa Rannóg do ghrúpaí le daonra idir 4,000 agus 20,000 ar Glór na Móna. Chomh maith le teastas, bronnadh seic do €4,000 orthu ar an oíche. Bhí Feargal Mac Ionnrachtaigh i láthair ón choiste leis an duais a ghlacadh. D’éirigh le Glór na Móna an chéad áit a bhaint amach sa rannóg seo de bharr an sár-obair a rinne siad i mbun forbairt pobail trí Ghaeilge sa cheantar áitiúil in 2016. Tháinig Ionad Uíbh Eachach sa tríú áit sa Rannóg do ghrúpaí le daonra thar 20,000. D’éirigh leo seic do €2,000 a bhaint, agus cuirfear an tairgead go mór leis an obair atá ar siúl acu ar Bhóthar na bhFál agus an ceantar máguaird.

B’iad Cumann Forbartha Chois Fharraige, Gaillimh a thug príomhdhuais Ghlór na nGael ina bhaile leo agus seic le haghaidh €20,000. Duaischiste de luach €80,000 ina iomláine a bronnadh ag ócáid bhliantúil Ghlór na nGael ar choistí pobail, clubanna CLG agus cumainn 3ú leibhéal as sár-obair i gcur chun cinn na Gaeilge de.

Bronnadh an gradam speisialta, Gradam Ghlór na nGael ar theaghlach Shéamuis Mhic Géidigh as ucht a obair chraoltóireachta agus a ról i gcúrsaí forbartha pobail. Bhí a bhean chéile Dolores i láthair ar an oíche, chomh maith lena mhac Dónall, agus a chuid iníonacha, Éadaoin & Póilín.

Chomh maith leis an Uachtarán, bhí urraitheoirí ó go leor eagras i láthair, Foras na Gaeilge agus Údarás an Gaeltachta ina measc.

Ó hUiginn, Pat Carey, Cathaoirleach Bord Stiúrtha Ghlór na nGael, agus Pól Ó Gallchóir, cathaoirleach Fhoras na Gaeilge

President Micheál D. Ó hUiginn was present in The Carton House Hotel in Maynooth on Saturday night to present the annual Glór na nGael awards.

Among the winners on the night were Glór na Móna, who were awarded first place in the category for groups with populations of between 4,000 and 20,000. Feargal Mac Ionnrachtaigh was in attendance on behalf of the committee, and collected a cheque for €4,000 in recognition of their ongoing work with the promotion of the Irish language. Ionad Uíbh Eachach were awarded third place in the category for groups with populations of over 20,000. The group were presented with a cheque for €2,000 on the night, which will go towards their ongoing development work in the local area.

Cumann Forbartha Chois Fharraige, Galway, took this year’s top award along with a cheque for €20,000. A prizefund totaling €80,000 was awarded to Irish Language community groups, GAA clubs and 3rd level societies in recognition of their achievements in Language promotion and revival.

The special award ‘Gradam Glór na nGael’ was presented to the family of the late RTÉ broadcaster Séamus Mac Géidigh, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to broadcasting and his role in community development. Seamus’ wife Dolores was in attendance on the night, as were son Dónall and daughters Éadaoin and Póilín

Special guests representing funders and partner organisations were also present at the event including Foras na Gaeilge and Údarás na Gaeltachta.
