For the 7th year running we are delighted to organise our unique community health and well-being festival, Féile na gCloigíní Gorma in May 2023! Since our last festival in 2022, we have seen major developments unfold in our society, both positive and negative. Our community is suffering from the so-called Cost of Living Crisis which was more accurately described at a recent Public Meeting we organised as ‘the permanent crisis of capitalism’. This same greed in name of profit is taking further towards the greatest crisis of our time: climate destruction.
At the same time, the Upper Springfield community also led the way and demonstrated massive resilience during the past year. From our environmental stalwart Aaron Kelly and other locals’ pioneering work to rewild and protect our Black Mountain; our young people leading the way through An Dream Dearg to successfully campaign for an Irish Language Act; to the courageous and inspirational victory of the Mac Gabhann family through the Donate4Daithí campaign which successfully brought Dlí Dáithí (Daithí’s Law) to the statute book for June 1st! Féile na gCloigíní Gorma is inspired by this community’s grassroots activism that proves that another world is possible.
