2017 Aisling Award Winners

Everyone at Glór na Móna our delighted that we were announced as winners for the Irish Language award at this years’ Aisling Awards. Here is our Director, Feargal Mac Ionnrachtaigh accepting the Irish language award at the Aisling awards stating:

‘When we opened Gaelionad Mhic Goill last year, we said that we were standing on the shoulders of giants. Those giants who planted the seed by establishing the Shaws Road Gaeltacht and those pioneering activists in our own area like Seán Magaoill, Jim McCann, Maureen McGuinness, Seán O Muireagáin and Matt Lundy who laid the foundations for a new and radical generation of active and vocal young Gaels to take our community reconquest to the next level in Belfast.

We have ambitious plans to develop a purpose built youth and family centre next door to the Gael-Ionad in what will be Gaeltacht hub in the Upper Springfield area. It will the first building of its kind in the history of the northern state and we will be seeking broad support to make this vision a reality.

It is the same active young Gaels from Glór na Móna who are central to the vibrant campaign for a standalone Irish language act in the north of Ireland. These Gaels won’t take as much as one backward step. The days of second class citizenship are over and we won’t be kept at the back of the bus any longer. We want to live our lives through Irish. Go nÉirí linn.’
