Cumann Rothaíochta Loch Lao

Tá Gaeil óga Bhéal Feirste ag gníomhú arís chun tógáil ar athbheochan phobalbhunaithe na teanga agus Cumann Rothaíochta Loch Lao á sheoladh ar an Domhnach bheag seo, 11 Bealtaine ag a 10rn, ag bualadh ag Cultúrlann McAdam Ó Fiaich. Is trathúil agus toipiciúil go bhfuil an dul chun cinn seo ag titim amach agus ceann de na himeachtaí is mó rothaíochta ar domhan ag teacht go Béal Feirste cois cuain ag an deireadh seachtaine agus an Giro d’Italia ag mealladh na céadta míle turasóirí fud fad na tíre.

Beidh sé de sprioc ag an chumann tógáil ar an tsárobair atá déanta ag Laochra Loch Lao, Cumann Peile na Ceathrún Gaeltachta,  agus iad ag cur cinn na teanga fríd forbairtí spóirt agus aclaíochta. Cuirfidh forbairt an chumainn rothaíochta go mór leis an ghreasán agus leis an infrastruchtúr shóisialta  a eascaíonn úsáid na Gaeilge ag leibheál pobail. Tá an t-infrastruchtúr seo go mór faoi bhláth le bliantaí beaga anuas agus ag tabhairt deiseanna úsáide agus foghlamtha Gaeilge don Phobal s’againn, go háirithe don aos óg.

Tá sé de rún ag an chumann rothaíochta ar a laghad rothaíocht sheachtainiúil a dhéanamh gach deireadh seachtaine a thabharfas an deis do dhaoine, an Ghaeilge a úsáid ar bhonn sóisialta. Amach anseo fosta, ba mhian linn rothaíocht urraithe a dhéanamh go Rath Cairn i gceantar Gaeltachta na Mí. Déanfaidh muid seo chun tacaíocht a thabhairt d’fheachtas bus Gaeloideachais do phobalArd Eoin.

Tá an cumann anois beo ar Facebook agus is féidir ‘like’ a thabhairt ar ár leathanach úr ‘Cumann Rothaíochta Loch Lao’. Is ansin a gheobhfar an t-eolas cuí uilig maidir leis an chumann.

Dúirt eagraí an chumainn, Máirtin Mac Gabhann, ‘D’éirigh linn níos mó ná 170 ‘like’ a fháil agus níor chuir muid amach an leathanach, ach go mall aréir. Agus muna bhfuil tú ar Facebook ach go bhfuil suim agat bheith páirteach, buail linn ag an Chultúrlann ar Bhóthar na bhFal ar a 10 ar maidin. Is cuma más Bradley Wiggins thú nó muna raibh tú ar rothar i do shaol, ní bheidh aon duine fágtha san fhaopach.

‘ Tá fearadh na fáilte roimh chách, is deis iontach é do dhaoine atá ag iarraidh bheith ag nascadh le Gaeil eile, ag cur lena gcuid aclaíochta nó más suim le daoine cúpla focal a bhailiú. Is cinnte gur fhoghlaim muintir Chumann Chluain Árd an cuid mhaith Gaeilge agus iad sa Chumann Rothaíochta tráth dá raibh.

’Ní do Ghaeilgeoirí líofa amháin é an cumann. Ba mhaith linn an deis a thapú chun bheith ag cur le Gaeilge daoine fosta. Mar sin de, más Gaeil líofa thú, más foghlaimeoir thú, más cainteoir dúchais thú, má tá cúpla focal agat nó muna bhfuil Gaeilge ar bith agat ach ba mhian leat rud beag a fhoghlaim agus tú ar do rothar, bí linn Dé Domhnaigh!’

Young Gaels are at the fore of community based language revival again with Cumann Rothaíochta Loch Lao (Irish language cycling club) launching this Sunday, 11th May at 10am at Cultúrlann. It’s timely and topical that this latest development is unfolding with one of the world’s biggest cycling events coming to Belfast at the weekend with Giro d’Italia enticing the hundreds and thousands of tourists all over the country.

The club’s aim is to build on the great work done by Laochra Laoch Lao, the Gaeltacht Quarter’s football club as they promote the language through sporting and fitness developments. The development of the cycling club will hugely enhance the network and social infrastructure that facilitates the use of Irish at community level. This infrastructure has been blossoming in recent years now and providing an opportunity to both learn and use the language, particularly for our youth.

The cycling club intend to organise at least one weekly cycle on weekends that will help people use the language in a social capacity. In time, we hope to do a sponsored cycle to Rath Cairn in the Gaeltacht area of Meath. We will do this to support the bus campaign for Coláiste Feirste’s Ardoyne pupils.

The club is now live on facebook and you can give a “like” on our new page ‘Cumann Rothaíochta Loch Lao. This is where you will find all the club’s relevant and latest information.

Club organiser, Máirtín MacGabhann said, “We’ve already managed more than 170 “likes” and the page didn’t go live until late last night. And if you are not on facebook but would like to take part, meet us at the Cultúrlann on the Falls Road at 10:00 Sunday morning. It doesn’t matter if you are a Bradley Wiggins or a complete novice, everyone is welcome.”

Everyone is more than welcome, it is a great opportunity for those wanting to meet with other Gaels, improve their fitness or if you want pick up a cúpla focal. It’s a sure thing that those who attended Cumann Chluain Ard learnt their Irish in a cycling club back in the day.

This club is not exclusive to fluent speakers. We want to take advantage of this opportunity to help develop people’s language skills. Therefore, whether you are a fluent Gael, a learner, a native speaker, you have cúpla focal or if you have no Irish as of yet and would like to learn a little whilst on your bike, join us on Sunday!
