Glór na Móna among the winners at annual Glór na nGael awards ceremony. President Micheál D. Ó hUiginn awarded Glór na Móna with  first place in the category for groups with populations of between 4,000 and 20,000.

President Micheál D. Ó hUiginn was present in The Carton House Hotel in Maynooth on Saturday night to present the annual Glór na nGael awards.

Among the winners on the night were Glór na Móna, who were awarded first place in the category for groups with populations of between 4,000 and 20,000. Feargal Mac Ionnrachtaigh was in attendance on behalf of the committee, and collected a cheque for €4,000 in recognition of their ongoing work with the promotion of the Irish language. Ionad Uíbh Eachach were awarded third place in the category for groups with populations of over 20,000. The group were presented with a cheque for €2,000 on the night, which will go towards their ongoing development work in the local area.

Cumann Forbartha Chois Fharraige, Galway, took this year’s top award along with a cheque for €20,000. A prizefund totaling €80,000 was awarded to Irish Language community groups, GAA clubs and 3rd level societies in recognition of their achievements in Language promotion and revival.

The special award ‘Gradam Glór na nGael’ was presented to the family of the late RTÉ broadcaster Séamus Mac Géidigh, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to broadcasting and his role in community development. Seamus’ wife Dolores was in attendance on the night, as were son Dónall and daughters Éadaoin and Póilín

Special guests representing funders and partner organisations were also present at the event including Foras na Gaeilge and Údarás na Gaeltachta.
