Solidarity with the Munduruku who have won their occupation in defense of Indigenous education
After 23 days of occupation, the Munduruku have defeated law 10.820 that tried to make education virtual for Amazon peoples

Direct action works, as the inspirational Munduruku people have shown with their latest victory against the Brazilian government who tried to force virtual education on the people of the Amazon, having occupied km 83 of the BR163 Highway for 23 days to insist on consultation regarding their education.
The young people coming through Glór na Móna know only too well state denial of their rights as Irish speakers, particularly in 2017 when the Education Authority cut the Glór na Móna Irish language youth club, attended by hundreds of young Irish speakers.

The cuts devastated Glór na Móna, putting four youth workers out of jobs and leaving hundreds of Irish speakers out in the cold, shutting the youth club down. In immediate response, the young Irish speakers organised a public meeting in Coláiste Feirste, the radical Irish-medium secondary school in Belfast also born out of cultural decolonial revival, where it was decided to protest the Education Authority’s decision.
Two days later, hundreds of young Irish speakers occupied the Education Authority office in Belfast City in protest. Within days, the Education Authority U-turned and the funding was given back to the young Irish speakers. Direct action works!

The U-Turn was too late in stopping further protests and action, as the Education Authority’s cuts were one in a long series of attacks on the Irish language in the colonised six counties. These attacks sparked the red wave of An Dream Dearg, the wider Irish language revival movement fighting for language and human rights. Two months after the Education Authority occupation, over 10,000 people marched to Belfast City Hall demanding Irish language rights. This number doubled in 2022 when upwards of 20,000 people came out to successfully demand implementation of these rights.
Solidarity with the Munduruku and indigenous people across the Global South who are struggling for their rights in far more extreme conditions than us.
