Labhair agus léigh Feargal Mac Ionnrachtaigh sliocht as a leabhar nuálach Langauge, Resistance and Revival i dTeach na Móna agus labhair Matt Lundy ar a thaithí féin ag foghlaim a chuid Gaeilge agus é i bpríosún chomh maith. Bhí sár an cheoil bith agus comhluadar againn! .

IMG-20131008-00632Is iardhalta é Feargal ar Bhunscoil Phobal Feirste agus Meánscoil Feirste in Iarthar Bhéal Feirste. D’fhreastal sé ar Ollscoil na Banríona i mBéal Feirste, áit ar bhain sé céim na dochtúireachta amach in 2009 le tráchtas ar Phríosúnaigh Phoblachtánacha agus athbheochán na Gaeilge i dtuaisceart na hÉireann a tháinig amach mar leabhar i mbliana fán teideal ‘Language, Resistance and Revival – Republican Prisoners and the Irish language in the North of Ireland (Pluto Press 2013)’.  Oibríonn sé go lán-aimseartha i ngluaiseacht na Gaeilge i mBéal Feirste, áit atá sé fostaithe mar oifigeach tionscadail le haisínteacht forbartha Gaeilge na Ceathrún Gaeltachta, Forbairt Feirste. Is cathaoirleach fosta é ar eagraíocht Ghaeilge an Uachtar Chluanaigh, Glór na Móna.

Rugadh agus tógadh Maitiú Mac Giolla Fhiondáin i Loiste na IMG-20131008-00636Móna, Iarthar Bhéal Feirste agus is gníomhaí poblachtanach é le blianta anuas. Daoradh priosúnacht saoil air sna Blocanna H sa Cheis Fhada idir 1977 – 1992, áit a d’fhoghlaim sé a chuid Gaeilge. Ó saoradh é, d’imir sé ról lárnach ó thaobh athbheochan teanga agus polaitíocht cheantair de san Uachtar Chluanaí. Is comhbhunaitheoir é de Naíscoil agus Gaelscoil na Móna i Lóiste na Móna. Bíonn sé ag teagasc  Gaeilge ar bhonn lán-aimseartha le réimse ranganna trasna na cathrach.

Language, Resistance and Revival le Feargal Mac Ionnrachtaigh

Feargal Mac Ionnrachtaigh spoke and did  a reading from his explosive new book “Language Resistance and Revival” in Trinity Lodge and our own Matt Lundy will drew on his own experiences of learning the Irish language while in jail.  A great nigh og music, food and company was had!

IMG-20131008-00632Feargal is former pupil of Bunscoil Phobal Feirste and Meánscoil Feirste in West Belfast. He attended Queen’s University where he obtained his doctorate in 2009 with his thesis on Republican prisoners and the Revival of the Irish language in the North of Ireland which came to be the book entitled ‘Language, Resistance and Revival- Republican Prisoners and the Irish language in the North of Ireland (Pluto Press 2013).” Feargal works full time in the Belfast Irish language movement where he is employed a Project Officer in the Gaeltacht Quarter’s development agency, Forbairt Feirste. He is also the chairperson of the Upper Springfield’s Irish language community organisation, Glór na Móna

About Matt

Matt was born and reared in the Turf Lodge area of West IMG-20131008-00636Belfast and is a republican activist of some 40 years standing. He was sentenced to life imprisonment in the H Blocks of Long Kesh between 1977-1992 where he learned and used the Irish language. Since his release, he has played a leading role in the language revival and community politics in the Upper Springfield area and was a co-founder of Naíscoil and Bunscoil na Móna in Turf Lodge. He currently teaches Irish to adults on a full-time basis across Belfast in numerous classes.
