The launch of Upper Springfield Irish language group Glór na Móna’s spring programme was a major success on Tuesday 25 January in Teach na Móna Social club, directly adjacent to Turf Lodge Irish Medium School, Gaelscoil na Móna. Over 60 people packed into the Trinity Lodge main hall to enjoy some traditional music and the launch of the glossy spring programme. This included six new Irish classes at the bargain price of £30 for 15 weeks with a trip to the Donegal Gaeltacht included at the end of the course in May. The programme also included a packed series of events including social events, a fantastic new community lecture series, trips and Irish language crash courses. In addition, Glór na Móna’s Irish Medium Youth Club, Cumann Óige Chluanaí, which will take place weekly between 4.30pm and 6.30 in Holy Trinity Youth Club, presented a whole host of events and trips over the coming months for the young people of the area.
The main Irish classes levels 1 to 5 and the Guitar class will run from Tuesday 1 February in Gaelscoil na Móna at 7pm while parents classes will occur in both Gaelscoil na Móna and Bunscoil an tSléibhe Dhuibh at 9.30am on Monday 31 January and 11am on Tuesday morning respectively.
Glór na Móna Chairperson Feargal Mac Ionnrachtaigh stated, “We were delighted to see such a turn-out at our launch which proves the appetite in our areas for the language revival and bottom-up community activism. Our programme is a partnership initiative with our Youth Club, Cumann Óige Chluanaí as well as Gort na Móna CLG who facilitate our community lecture series. There are events and courses that are suitable for all interests and ages and it isn’t too late to register for any of the courses. Anyone looking to sign- up can contact our development worker Seán Ó Corráin on 90 585755 or email us on firstname.lastname@example.org . Or, alternatively, students can simply come along on the February 1st and register on the night.”
